Fleece to Shawl Competition
- Southeast Animal Fiber Forum 2004, Saturday Oct. 23, 2004, 9:00 AM until 2 PM, in the Arena
- The number of competing teams is limited to four.
- Each team will consist of one weaver and up to four carder/spinners. (No drum carders).
- Each will provide its own recently sheared, unscoured fleece and a pre-warped loom (handspun natural warp) set at no less than 8 epi.
- Weft may be no more than three times the diameter of the warp yarn. The sleyed width of the shawl should be at least 22 inches. The woven length must be 70 to 75 inches.
- Shawls may be auctioned by teams after judging is completed. (If they intend to wash t heir shawls, they should bring a bucket and washing medium and towels.)
- Judging will be based on teamwork (including spirit, costumes, etc.), quality and uniformity of spun yarns, quality of weaving, finishing details, overall aesthetics.
