Claudia has enjoyed a life-long love of fiber and fabric, She has made clothing, costumes, toys and made alterations since her teens. She also put her hand to embroidery, beading, appliqué, needlepoint and macramé. Her current love is working with wool. She makes an assortment of felted critters and paints with wool, (pictures to frame). Claudia has been sharing her love of wool with other fiber lovers for the past 6 years. She especially loves to teach beginner needle felting. In her class you will leave with a finished creation and a new addiction!

Dede Styles

Dede will take us through common native plants that contain dye, when to gather them and how to use them.

About Dede Styles: Put together being raised by a mother who taught me all about native plants, a pet sheep for fiber and a grandmother who was a weaver in the Southern Highlands Craft Guild, and you come up with someone who had to give natural dye a try. After the first dye bath of Queen Anne's Lace I was hooked.

Exploring Double Two-Tie

Double two-tie (D2T) threadings* are incredibly versatile, offering the ability to weave a variety of different structures which can be used in block designs, color play, and texture, on fewer shafts.

About the Instructor: Linda Schultz has been weaving for over fifty years. She is particularly interested in exploring different weave structures and the interplay of color and structure. She has taught classes and written articles in order to share her discoveries.

About this Workshop:

Ability level: Advanced beginner or intermediate.

Must be able to: Dress a loom

Read and follow a weaving draft, including using a liftplan

Familiar with block weaves and profile drafts

Optional but helpful - familiar with using weaving software

Loom Requirements:

8 shaft table or dobby loom. Floor looms may be used BUT the tie-ups will likely change for each sample. Non dobby floor loom weavers with 12 treadles will be making frequent tie-up changes. Weavers who are comfortable figuring out how to reduce the treadles, and are comfortable with frequent tie-up changes, are welcome to bring their floor looms.

Location

Historic Johnson Farm, Hendersonville. NC

Participants will provide:

Pre-warped 8 shaft table loom (Please note above information about floor looms). Shuttles, weft yarn, scissors, tape measure, notebook, pencil and any other materials needed for weaving.

Optional items: Participants may also bring a laptop with weaving software - Fiberworks for Mac will be used for demonstrations and can be downloaded and used for free on Mac or Windows.

Lunch, drinks, snacks as desired. (No lunch provided)

Instructor will supply:

Instructions for preparing looms, PDF handouts, wifs/drafts.

Additional Cost:

$5 Payable to the instructor on the first day of the workshop (cash or check).

Community: SAFF (Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair) - Volunteer Opportunity (23 Oct 2026)

The event is located at the WNC Agricultural Center, in Fletcher, NC, across Hwy 280 from the Asheville Regional Airport. (Exit 40 off I-26).

Admission will be $5/person per day. $10 pass for 3 days. Youth under 13 yrs. old will be free. Bring cash! Only at gate..no early ticket sales.

Join us for our last in person meeting of 2026! We will be electing officers for the coming year, revealing the Winter Project Challenge, and sharing a potluck lunch.

Community: Guild Show at the Folk Art Center - Submit Entry (1 Dec 2026)

The 2027 WNCFHG Show at the Folk Art Center

You must be a member of the Guild to enter

Up to 50 items will be chosen for the show by a jury of your peers from the Guild using submitted photos of your work.

Deadline for submitting work to the jury is December 1, 2026.
Deadline for completion of forms and delivery of your work to the Folk Arts Center is December28, 2026.
Only Guild members may submit work for consideration.
The work should be original in design and less than 4 years old.
Preference will be given to works available for sale.
Work submitted to the Mountain State Fair, SAFF, etc. are eligible for entry into the show.

The Folk Arts Center is responsible for hanging the show and will take 50% of any sales and 10% of any commissions received as a result of the show.
